Nice but expensive gadget, limited features. To improve.
(Part III) After a brief analisys what you get is the following:
- an IPAQ sleeve form factor expansion. (This feature is a pro and a limitation at the same time because while combining perfectly with iPAQ devices, will not be compatible with other PocketPCs.
- an 800 by 600 CMOS sensor embedded in the plastic case
- a single unpowered Compact Flash expansion slot
- the PocketPC software driver to make the camera work with your device The Flash
An additional unfortunate feature is the lack of flash. The camera is virtually useless at night or in dark environments. The actual compact design could have included a built in flash like the those on the single use 35mm film cameras or, even better, a small detachable flash module powered by AA or AAA batteries, attach to the unit when needed. The Zoom
The fact that such feature is present should make the camera more enjoyable. Unfortunatly Nexian made another bad choice: The lack of optical zoom. I am not talking about a Carl Zeiss, a Nikkor or an high quality grade lens, but just by providing the camera with a decent lens having a short range zooming capablity would have been probably a much better choice than the digital zoom, which actually reduces the quality of the images captured making them grainy, jagged and/or blurry beyond acceptable levels. A simple, manually adjustable mini zoom lens would allow the nexicam to produce higher quality close-up shots. The current low quality of the images created by the digital zoom will make it a feature you will try to avoid as much as possible. The Auto Focus
In a device like this make to get picture on the move this feature is a must, the nexicam auto focus feature unfortunately is slow and often will require you to stay still for a few seconds while the device is adjusting exposure and focus, you will be able to see the image appear on the viewfinder while the device performs such adjustment process. This will happen especially when passing from highly illuminated areas to dark ones.

Great price for a good product. It's pretty straight forward for this type of thing, either it works or it doesn't and I give it a 5 for working and being cheap.

NexiCam Digitl Camera for iPAQ

Nice [] gadget. Limited. Drains power too fast!
I had been waiting to try this camera for a while. I finally got it a few months ago and all I can say it's a really nice gadget! Unfortunately not more than that for the moment since it's way [too much] for what the hardware offers. Don't get me wrong, this gizmo sports features like an 800 by 600 resolution and video capture capability at 320 by 240 at 10fps in clips with a maximum duration of 45 seconds and so forth.
Among its features the Nexicam ships with a software driver which allows users to gain control, over various settings and adjustments, to obtain pictures with the highest possible quality offered by the hardware. The software will make a little more worth the money spent on the Nexicam...but remember! I said "a little".
Of course it all depends on the specific user needs, but if you are thinking to switch to this gadget because you want to leave your digital camera home during your next trip, or a party at a friend's house (like I was thinking to do)...well, I would give you a friendly advice that will spare you a lot of frustrations: stick with your digital camera at this time...you'll be much better off!In short
I would have a lot to talk about how this unit could be improved such as making it more compaxt or adding an "optic body", swappable optional lenses and so forth, because I see the nexicam as a great potential unit, but that would go way off path here, therefore I will spare you from such details. I will only mention a list of pros and cons, based on my experience with this product and on my personal opinion (that you may or may not share), which will hopefully give you one of many point of views. Pros: SVGA 800 by 600 resolution, Video capable (320 by 240 no audio), integrated CF Slot for additional Storage, auto focus (that can be slightly adjusted through a lens gear), iPAQ form factor.
Cons: comes with no battery, uses iPAQ's power therefore shortens its autonomy - comes with no flash, with no built in CF memory- does not include a CF Card - slow auofocus - low sensitivity exposure - GUI to be fine tuned The interface on the iPAQ simulates needlessly the back of a consumer digital camera which "steals" precious preview space - hardware design solution is still a bit bulky, no optical zoom, barely adequate lens, can be used only with iPAQ PDAs, poor documentation, comes in [poor] packaging.
As a recommandation I would suggest you stick with your digital camera because, as it is now, the Nexicam is not ready to replace it. But assuming that you are lucky enough to have no battery drain issues, I guess that if you want to grab pictures while on the go and you really need integration with your iPAQ, then the Nexicam may probably be a viable solution, if low quality is not an issue for you.

Good product hindered by G1 bug
I initially thought this product was broken because my HTC G1 would not play music through the 3.5mm jack and instead continue to play music out of the external speaker.
The strange part was that if I used the original headphones that came with the phone (with the proprietary connector) the music played out of those headphones as it should.

Sweet laptop!
This is an excellent laptop that will not break your budget. The video card is lacking a little bit. (When playing World of Warcraft, I had to lower all the graphics options in order to have a decent frame rate.) But other than that it is a solid performer. I will be using it primarily for photo editing and it handles that like a dream.
